SAN DIEGO (May 17, 2022) – Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm, today announced the promotion of Kara Matthies to Studio Manager, Interior Architecture & Design, and Sam Bellomio to Engineering Managerin the San Diego (Sorrento Valley) office.Matthies will help lead the growth and management of the office’s Interior Architecture & Design Studio and manage select projects. Bellomio will help lead the growth and management of the San Diego Civil Engineering team and manage select projects.
In 2016, Matthies joined the Ware Malcomb team as a Designer and quickly gained the confidence of the firm’s industry partners due to her design work, leadership, and effective project management skills. She has more than eight years of interior architecture and design expertise, managing all aspects of project design, including programming, space planning, schematic design, design development, consultant coordination, and contract administration. Her project experience includes corporate office, workplace, retail, and restaurant projects.

Matthies holds a Bachelor of Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon and a National Council for Interior Design Qualification in Project Management. She is active in the San Diego chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. Her involvement in NAIOP and other organizations has solidified her presence in the commercial real estate industry and expanded business development opportunities for Ware Malcomb in San Diego.
Since Bellomio joined Ware Malcomb in 2020 as Project Manager, the growth of the San Diego Civil Engineering practice has grown exponentially. He brings over 13 years of experience in the civil engineering field to the team having worked in the Seattle market prior to San Diego. His civil design experience spans both public and private land development projects, with a primary focus on land development and storm water analysis.

Bellomio holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Seattle University. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in the state of California. He is an active member of the Building Industry Association (BIA) Stormwater Taskforce, the California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) Best Management Practices Subcommittee, and the County of San Diego Land Development Workgroup.
