WARE MALCOMB ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE ON ALENDEL WAREHOUSE SHOWROOM IN TORONTO, ONTARIO

VAUGHAN, Ontario (April 29, 2025) – Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm, today announced construction is complete on a new warehouse, showroom and office for Alendel in Toronto, Ontario. Ware Malcomb provided architecture, civil engineering and interior architecture and design services for the 45,500 square foot project, located at 3900 Weston Road.

Established in 1981, Alendel is a leading distributor of home furnishings in North America. With operations and offices both in Canada and the United States, the second-generation, family-run company is focused on supplying fabrics, trimmings, linings, decorative drapery hardware and more for manufacturers, interior design trades and the hospitality sector.

The new location represents an expansion of Alendel’s operations and a redesign of its showroom, with main components including an 8,500 square foot office on two levels and a 37,000 square foot warehouse. The space is designed to be multi-functional, allowing them to host events. Ware Malcomb’s architecture and interior design studios worked together to propose an elevator and feature stair to elevate the client’s office design.

“We suggested a functional approach, with a machine room-less elevator spec, and ensured the elevator would allow for finishes similar to the office concept in order to provide a coherent design,” said Catalina Rocha, Director, Architecture.

The space fulfills the client’s desire for an elegant hybrid of residential and commercial elements with elegant furniture and finishes throughout, an approach the team coined as “resi-mercial” design. The office area features a reception and greeting area, open office space, presentation rooms, private offices, break room and showroom. The showroom area features high ceilings to optimize the height and showcase the client’s drapery and fabrics.

“Our team used display cases, hanging shelving units, and designed a bar and featured staircase to the second-floor office space,” said Amanda Kavanaugh, Director, Interior Architecture & Design. “The warehouse showroom boldly showcases the client’s drapery products, which hang on the wall millwork that also displays their available hardware.”

While elements of the office played on a residential feel, Alendel wanted a sense of elegance in the public space, including the boardrooms and reception. Ware Malcomb assisted with furniture selection and provided full insight on the selection of finishes. Additionally, the team carefully curated art and accessories to complement the overall design, ensuring a cohesive and stylish aesthetic throughout the space.

Ware Malcomb also provided civil engineering services and coordinated structural design and mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. The firm’s civil engineers completed designs for the site grading, servicing and a sustainable approach to stormwater management. The stormwater management design utilized roof, surface and underground storage of stormwater and designed an infiltration gallery to meet the City of Toronto’s Green Standards for stormwater and water balance.
